Where the Obama Administration Intends to Take the Country and How It Plans to Do So -- New York Magazine

This is an important article on the Presidency, interrelationship with Congress and re election politics. Also important to budgeting at federal level. Worth a read.

  1. First of all, I would like to point out that this article is biased and isn't actually reporting. Basically John Heilemann put Obama on a pedestal. However, he did make some good points on how Obama needs to fix the things that went wrong in the first two years of his term. Heilemann states that Obama will have to gear up for “…a difficult reelection campaign.” Obama should have to fight for reelection. Every current president should. The fact that Obama’s cabinet suggested that he was going to have to work for the reelection is off-putting. Obama should want to work and put in the effort that he did during the election process leading up to his first term. Obama has become lazy in the past two years and having to actually work for a reelection just goes to show how Obama and his cabinet feel that they deserve to be reelected, which isn't the case.

  2. Danielle, I would have to disagree with your statement. The actions of Obama are in my opinion an excellent example of how of how our president is proving himself a fluid and dynamic leader. There is no denying that President Obama was anything but lazy in the first two years of his presidency. The 111th Congress was perhaps the most productive on record. Obama played an instrumental role in that. In the first half of his term, he did exactly what he has elected to do. He ran on promises to try and fix Wall Street (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) and to take steps to provide Americans with accessible health care (Affordable Care Act).

However, Obama has quickly realized that perhaps his public is not as ready for the goals that he had personally wanted. I believe his step to become less aggressive and more thoughtful is a true sign that Obama is willing to work with both sides of the aisle to achieve what is in the best interest for the American public. This is a sign of maturity and certainly not of laziness.
