Test-Taking Cements Knowledge Better Than Studying, Researchers Say - NYTimes.com

  1. I agree that students probably regain more knowledge and a better understanding of what they just read if they are quizzed or tested after. However, I don't think that this is the norm. Some students learn better and retain information better using different techniques. I think a good teacher or professor would use multiple forms of retention and learning techniques to reach all of their or at least the majority of their students in some way. Everyone learns differently and it should be taken into account in academic settings for not only testing but for actually teaching the material.
    The benefits of taking a comprehension test or quiz after learning something is that students are required to think about the questions and what they just read. However, testing isn’t the only way to ensure retention.
