State budget problem is not just taxes, and it's not just spending | - MLive.com

Interesting article. As we have been saying our budget problems will only be solved with a balanced approach that includes careful evaluation, measurement and possible amendment of revenue (taxes) AND spending (budget).

  1. It is sad to read about how the budget needs equal parts of generating revenue and cutting spending but how members of the state government think there is a snowball's chance in hell that everyone will agree on a budget.

  2. It is really sad that the government can't agree on something like this. The budget is essential to the functioning of the state. A lot of this has to do with the self centered nature of the culture. Most people are concerned about what is best for them and not what is best for society. What is the point of sitting in your castle when the forest is burning around you, the flames are going to reach you eventually.

  3. I think that is vital for both sides to come together and agree on a budget. When this kind of division is present in government it is the general public that suffer. Hopefully an agreement will be reached since a budget is vital to the lively hood of any state.
