  1. I am really glad that you posted this article Professor Haynes. I had recently read this article on the Detroit Free Press too, and I really do not think that public workers outearn private sector workers. In fact, I feel like most of the public workers I know (and have worked for) are very underpaid for the amount of work that they do.

  2. The problem public workers have being paid less in compensation is unfortunately in part due to the number of them that have to be paid through the government. Instead it is easier for private sector businesses than the public being able to give better compensation due to having smaller numbers of employees for their respective businesses. It may not be fair that private sector workers get more money for what they do over public workers but that is the risk you take when you work for the government when they have to pay many more employees than some private companies. Its interesting to read this article in the fact that many times you hear that the government is giving way too much to its public employees than private companies would to theres. During Snyder's campaign he talked a lot about wasteful government and how it is affecting Michigan but from this report it seems to show that this is not true. What I would like to know from Rick Snyder is, is there certain public operations that maybe get more money than that of their private business counterparts?
