Money in Politics

Big money is flowing into the 1st Congressional District, UP and Northern Michigan, and into the SW Michigan congressional race between Schauer and Walberg. Makes you think about the old debate about limiting candidates to taking contributions from donors who live in their district-- and NO ONE else.

  1. Interesting, back to the topic of money. People in today's world focus so much on money and not on the greater good. I think limiting candidates from taking contributions from only taking donations from local interest groups is a good way at making sure local interest are voiced loud and proud. But at the same time the interest groups with strong financial backing will have a greater voice then those that are not, and this would create a biased and bought voice. We need to find a way that people can't buy a politicians platform and how to make the voice of the greater good not the deeper pocket.

  2. I would like to eliminate donations all together and have each candidate allowed only minimal funds to run their campaign from the state. This would be more of a burden on the state but I think it would pay off by limiting big players with lots of money from dominating the polls.

  3. I agree with nateinstate that something needs to be done so people can't buy a politicians platform. I'm not sure how that can be done without extreme restrictions on campaigning and such, if even then.
